Starting up the grade to Crater lake. The drive from Medford, OR to Crater Lake rises from 1300 ft elevation to over 7000 to the Rim drive.
First hint of snow on the ground
Continuing to climb to Crater lake. Medford is at 1,382 ft above sea level. Crater Lake Lodge and Visitor center is around 7,100 ft.
It's a beautiful drive. Impossible to capture with an iphone camera, or any camera I suppose.

The Crater Lake National Park Visitor Information Center was still a bit snowed in on this sunny day in May 2010.
The side entrance 'tunnel' was open.
Today was the first day that visiting the Crater Lake National Park was 'okay' without chains or 'traction' tires.
A six month old puppy was enjoying his first ever experience of snow. Eating it, romping in it and just having a good time.
First day that didn't require chains or special tires to use the road safely, and the reason why a car from SoCal can go to a beautiful place like Crater Lake today.
A Crater Lake FAQ from the visitor center. You can see down 134 feet, which is interesting, but it's only about 10% of the way down into the deep. :)
